Thank you John. Yes indeed its a pain. I wish there are better/easy ways to re-point data source other than the current replace data source strategy which is a definite downside considering the no. of features (like alias, calculated fields, Actions, number formatting etc) not being retained.
After replacing the data source (re-pointing the workbook local extract to server copy), I am thinking only way to bring back the alias name is to download the server copy extract, define alias names for elements/values of the particular dimension and re-publish to server with same name. This I believe would automatically bring back the alias names to the workbook.
Is this an approach i can consider?
Are there any alternate approaches to this issue?
At any cost I need to do this change as my current setup in PROD is consuming lot of server memory/processes by refreshing server copy once and workbook local copy (same data) once. so basically same data is being refreshed twice thereby utilizing server resources and consuming time.
