Yeah its possible! you can connect the files and "open with legacy connection" then you can use customer sql and write your own query.
See the screenshot.
Drag "New Custom SQL"
Once you drag a edit custom SQL window will open where you can write you SQL query based on the data sheet which you've in your file. Here I've only "sheet3" in the SuperStore sample file. After writing your SQL you can preview your query result. If your query is correct it will returns the result or with some error if your syntax are wrong.
feel free to ask if you've any query.
Thanks for the suggestions but my requirement is for Text Files.
I have 3 Text file. need to do union on it. Is it possible for Text file(.csv).
Which version of tableau are you using?
Its possible in version 9.3
see the above link.
Even in 9.2 and I believe 9.1 if you follow the steps that Mahfooj suggested you will see a list of .csv and you can write a custom SQL join yourself.
Connect to text data,
Navigate to the folder these are stored,
Select One of them
Open with Legacy Connection
This brings up the connection data source window will all the .csv in that root folder and it allows you to write your own custom sql.
Sorry Its my mistake.. I didnt open with Legacy Connection.
Now am able to use it. Thanks Guys for the help!!
Hi I am trying to do something similar and it seems like Tableau 10 doesn't have the option to open with legacy connection. What would be the equivalent action in Tableau 10.5?
If you're unable to write the custom SQL statement then not to worry there is a short cut
• First connect your data source with legacy connection and drag the source like this
• Now, go to Data menu tab and select this option
• Bingo you'll get your converted SQL statement like this, select OK.
Hope this help.
