# Associating Size of Circle View Graph to Number of Values

For some reason I can't seem to make this work.

I have a survey where people can rank items on a scale from 1-7 across several categories. I'm looking to graph the responses so that the size of the circle increases with the number of responses associated with that specific ranking. For example, if everyone ranked an item at 2 out of 7 in the "bitterness" category, that circle would be larger than if only 1 person ranked an item 2 out of 7. I think I attached something that will give you an idea of what I'm dealing with!

What warning were you getting in 9.3? I am currently using Tableau Desktop v9.2.4. I have attached the sample data source and a screen capture of what I am looking to do here:

I'm sorry Shawn, I'm obviously new to this whole thing. Either way, I appreciate your help and I'll be sure to include my version in any questions I ask in the future.

Hi Ryan,

Press "Ctrl" and drag SUM(Overall) on to Size Marks.

Then set 'Item' color transparency to 100%

Is this what you are looking for ?

This is close, but not what I am looking for unfortunately. on your image, the size seems to increase with the value of the ranking given, so that a 7 is larger than a 1. However I am looking to have size represent the number of people who ranked it that specific number. This would mean that if 3 people ranked it a 4, the circle would be larger than the 1 person who ranked it a 7 for instance. I'm sorry if this is confusing.

In the row change Overall to discrete dimension

In the detail change the Initials to CNT(Initials)

Although now that the rows and columns are both dimensions, I can't overlay

the average overall rating per shoe!

For Avg Overall per item you can create a different graph, something like this.

If you want the values it in current graph then just add it to detail, it wont change the viz but displays the avg overall value when you hover on the circles.
