Connecting Tableau Server to files located on a remote unix server

We have a bunch of SAS files (.sas7bdat) that reside on a remote unix server. Ideally what we'd like to do is set up extract data sources in Tableau Server that connect directly to these files on the unix server and have them refresh daily. I'm just not sure how to set up Tableau Server to connect directly to the files on the unix server (if it's even possible).

I know Tableau Server is capable of accessing files on a shared network drive, but we'd really like to connect directly to the unix server rather than putting another process in place to copy the files to a shared network drive. Has anybody had experience doing this?

      Thanks.
