I don't think it's supported by Tableau so you shouldn't do that (or even try).
If there are worries about the new version, you should install it on a test server first to check everything is still working.
You can also prepare for a rollback in case something goes really wrong (rollback is as fast as installing the server again, which is about 1 hour top).
I already copied Prod data into dev server(new 9.2.4) and its working good. But my manager is asking me not to uninstall older version in prod server. He is thinking like if something goes wrong, he cannot take that risk!!
Technically, I believe there are also some licensing issues to be concerned about here, assuming they are using the same license.
Does it work if we change the port number ?
