Dates Issue Aggregate and Non-Aggregate Arguments

    Donald Gray

I took over a few reports and have been checking them over.  They used  IF [Cont Begin Date - Formatted]< Date(‘2/1/2016’), that being the date of the source date, which is a manual pull.  I would like something similar to  IF [Cont Begin Date - Formatted]< MAX([Date of Action]), MAX([Date of Action]) would return 2/1/16 as there are actions every day.  Of course this won’t work since it is doing aggregation and non-aggregation.  Any ideas on a work around?

I made a more realistic sample workbook, attached, to highlight the issue.  The static tab shows what the results should be with a Max date of 1/20/16 the dynamic ATTR tab shows all closed.  I also tried this with a Parameter however I could not get the Parameter to default to the new max date when loading in new data. I do need to Tableau to carry out row calculations and compare it against the result of a column calculation.

Desktop 9.0 and sample workbook attached.
