How do I get the average of a set of data that is within x standard deviations?

    Jim Nielsen

I have grouped some data that has categories such North, South, East. There are many data points within each category, some 'outliers'. I can add bands to show them with the standard deviation bands.

I want to be able to calculate the average (and other info) for each Category, but only use the data within the standard deviation bands, and not use the 'outliers' in the average calculation?

How do I do this? I've been reading about using z-score, but can't seem to get the average calculation using the data just within the bands.

Any help and pointers is appreciated.
