# Comparing different periods on same data

I am trying to achieve

Year 2014 Over Year 2013

QTR1 2014 over QTR1 2013

similarly month too

I was able to achieve Qtr1 2014 data and Qtr2 2014 data but not able to do a growth comparison on this. its giving me blank value

Please find the attached workbook for reference

TY : Sum(value)

LY: LOOKUP(sum([value]),-1)

so to lookup LY qtr value i gave the below calculation

How to derive Growth basically Ty -Ly??

Hi Keerthana,

The easiest way to calculate the growth from previous year is using the Table calculation: Difference to previous year partitioning by Quarter. You can also turn this calculation easily into a percent difference.

Let me know if this helps.

Kind regards,

OMG !! Thanks thanks a lot ..i never thought of this option. Great Help.

It solves the issue of bringing in Growth or Growth % but when i bring in LY calculation the Growth is getting effected.

screenshot1:(Without LY calculation..Perfect i get the correct growth%)

screenshot2: (with LY calculation as a reference line.... my growth % just disappears)

Hi Kheertana,

Without your workbook it is hard for me to tell what could have gone wrong at your side. For me such a chart is no issue. As you can see in the screenshots:

And here the view you created:

I like building these things first on crosstab as I see better what is happening. Attached my workbook as well.

Kind regards,
