Hi Larsen Rennie,
That error is being displayed because the Tableau Server run as account do not have access to the local file being connected to. In order to get this working, you need to place file in a shared location and provide access to Server Run As Account to that location.
If this doesn't work, please follow the set of steps and update us if you still face the issue:
- Connect to dataset stored on a shared location.
- Create extract and save it in the shared location.
- Right click data connection and "Add to saved Data sources" (.tdsx) in the same location.
- Publish workbook and then refresh it.
If the error still occurs try saving the workbook in the same shared location where extract and data connections are saved.
The issue is still coming . I followed the steps mentioned by you but didn't try the server run as account . Can you check
I believe you'll also need to specify the UNC path to the data. This way, the server can find the specific location on the network instead of it looking for 'my computer'.
This link may answer the problem:
We are giving the UNC path only but still it is not working
it is saying acess is denied when i performe the refresh on the server. How can i provide the permission to tableau to access that shared drive
Check out this KB article, it has a section on Run As account permissions. Please go through every step of the article and let us know if that resolved the issue.
