Since Tableau 9.0 the ODBC connection to OBIEE now requires you to specify 1 Subject Area for each ODBC connection. If you need to connect to multiple Subject Areas, say 3, you will need to setup 3 separate ODBC connections with each one specifying 1 Subject Area. I attached an edited version of the kb article you linked below. The updated file contains detailed instructions on selecting a specific Subject Area. Hope this helps!

Shelly - thank you for pointing out the KB and thank you Chris for the quick update.
I was able to resolve this, by resolving the issue with the .tdc file.
Yes, we have also created different ODBC connections per subject area.I guess that should be like a best practice.
I've tried following these steps but was not able to get it to work. It shows me all my subject areas when i click the drop down. After I select one the dropdown refreshes and nothing happens.
Connecting to OBIEE with ODBC driver has several limitations as highlighted in this Tableau community article.
We offer an alternative solution, BI connector, that provides easy connectivity to both Subject Areas and Reports. You can see a demo of connecting to OBIEE reports with Tableau below:
You can download BI connector and see if it meets your requirement.
