# calculate % using  the same column across time.

I'm looking to calculate a percentage over several months, but using  the same total every time. Is this possible?

Here is an example from excel. I wan to calculate  % in column G using the total in Column C.

How would you do this in Tableau?

Thanks!

Could you please provide us with your Excel? So we can easily pull these data into Tableau.

Here you go:

 A B C D E F G Month of Date Count Balance Total % Count Balance Total % January 329,334 3,388,583 9.72% 538,067 3,388,583 15.88% February 346,277 3,681,833 9.41% 575,914 3,681,833 15.64% March 537,128 5,360,476 10.02% 910,181 5,360,476 16.98% April 595,376 5,367,970 11.09% 900,769 5,367,970 16.78% May 650,623 6,199,725 10.49% 1,078,601 6,199,725 17.40% June 985,064 7,411,637 13.29% 1,752,563 7,411,637 23.65%

Hi,

I don't know if this is exactly what you've searched but anyways:
Thats what I've done:

Create a Calculated Field like mentioned above  where you divide Count by Balance Total and that's it.

Sincerely,

Kevin

Thanks Kevin, but that doesnt solve the problem.

This will calculated the % correctly for the first set of numbers but I need to create a % accross time using the same measure. Here is an  example:

I wasn't to calculate column G by dividing columnE/ column C, but I don't now how to lock column C in tableau. If that make sense?

 A B C D E F G Month of Date Count Balance Total % Count Balance Total % January 329,334 3,388,583 9.72% 538,067 3,388,583 15.88% February 346,277 3,681,833 9.41% 575,914 3,681,833 15.64% March 537,128 5,360,476 10.02% 910,181 5,360,476 16.98% April 595,376 5,367,970 11.09% 900,769 5,367,970 16.78% May 650,623 6,199,725 10.49% 1,078,601 6,199,725 17.40% June 985,064 7,411,637 13.29% 1,752,563 7,411,637 23.65%

Take a look at this attached 9.2.2. workbook.  If this is not what you are wanting please upload a packaged workbook for us to look at.

Hi Amanda what i have understood from your post is that you'll have multiple set of months separated by another column, right? It can be referred to as Multiple set of months across different years. In the screenshot above you have a value of 1 and 2 over and above your column lables. Does that value represents the values coming from different set of months.

Now you want to keep the denominator constant as i have learnt from your screenshot. Which means that you'll have only one value for Januarry across all the values of months. Now the view that you have sent is the desired format but we don't know how the data will be flowing into tableau. I feel if you can supply us with the raw data that'll be imported into tableau we can come up with a solution that can help fix this issue. We would not need entire list of columns but just the relevant ones. Is it possible?
