    9.2.0 Connection Customizations in TDS not working

    David Ross

      Hello,

      Since I updated from 9.0 to 9.2, I seem to be unable to customize connections in TDS file. Here is a sample of the TDS that I am using:

      <connection-customization class='hadoophive' enabled='true' version='9.2'>

        <vendor name='hadoophive' />

        <driver name='hadoophive' />

        <customizations>

          <customization name='CAP_QUERY_GROUP_BY_DEGREE' value='no' />

        </customizations>

      </connection-customization>

      However, the setting doesn't seem to be applied. When I output the connection setup and save to a new TDS, here is what it looks like:

      <connection-customization class='hadoophive' enabled='false' version='9.2'>

        <vendor name='hadoophive' />

        <driver name='hadoophive' />

        <customizations>

          <customization name='CAP_QUERY_GROUP_BY_DEGREE' value='no' />

        </customizations>

      </connection-customization>

      It seems it is not using the enabled='true' setting.

      Please advise.

      Thanks,
      David

          Hi David,

          The TDS sample shown above looks correct, does it contain any other customizations or is it just the group by degree?  Do you have any TDC files for the same data source setup?  I've seen TDC Files take precedence over a TDS customization.

          Arthur

            Hi Arthur,

            Thanks for your response. I do not have any TDC files in play here. Also, please note that this behavior seems to be isolated to newer versions of Tableau: 9.0 was working fine, but 9.2 is not.

            Thanks,
            David

              Hi David,

              We've tried reproducing this in Tableau 9.2 & it seems to be working as expected for us. Below is the result that I'm seeing in 9.2, does this match what you're expecting?  Can you tell me a bit more about what you're trying to accomplish?

              Enabling the customizations & turning OFF CAP_QUERY_BY_DEGRESS

                  <relation name='testv1_rei' table='[testv1_raw].[testv1_rei]' type='table' />

                  <connection-customization class='hadoophive' enabled='true' version='9.2'>

                    <vendor name='hadoophive' />

                    <driver name='hadoophive' />

                    <customizations>

                      ...

                      <customization name='CAP_QUERY_GROUP_BY_DEGREE' value='no' />

                    </customizations>

                  </connection-customization>

              SELECT column_1, count(*)

              FROM mytable

              GROUP BY column_1

              Enabling the customizations & turning ON CAP_QUERY_BY_DEGRESS

                  <relation name='mytable' table='[mytable]' type='table' />

                  <connection-customization class='hadoophive' enabled='true' version='9.2'>

                    <vendor name='hadoophive' />

                    <driver name='hadoophive' />

                    <customizations>

                      ...

                      <customization name='CAP_QUERY_GROUP_BY_DEGREE' value='no' />

                    </customizations>

                  </connection-customization>

              SELECT column_1, count(*)

              FROM mytable

              GROUP BY 1

                Hey Arthur,

                Thanks for looking into this. I just downloaded the new version (9.2.2) and it seems my issue is resolved. I believe that if you run the same test above on 9.2.0 and possibly some versions of 9.1.x, you will reproduce this.

                Thanks,

                David
