My goal is to be able to do as much editing in Tableau as possible so I do not have to always reconnect Tableau to edited excel files
You don't have to delete it. You can just exclude it from the map or chart.
1.By right clicking the data mark, select Exclude and it will be out of the picture.
2.Create a filter to get rid of it. (Make the filter apply to all your sheets, if you want to do it once for all the sheets.)
3.Create an extract filter or a data source filter (google it for details on how to use it) if you don't even want to see it in your data source.
