Localization of a workbook on Tableau Desktop is not straightforward since Tableau will display Measure and Dimension names as they are presented in the datasource. Currently Tableau does not translate underlying data.
I would recommend creating different versions of a workbook that can be shared with users in different locales.
The following list contains areas of your workbook that may change as a result of the locale setting you choose:
- Currency, units of measure, etc.
- Describe sheet, trend lines, etc.
- Quick filter data entry and display
- Week, month, quarter, and fiscal year
We have developed an add-on for Tableau that allows the localization of dashboards. It reduces time and cost, as well as human error through automation of the process. It goes beyond localizing just basic fields is Tableau and delivers even in complex areas such as Tooltips. We can even localize projects on Tableau Server.
