As you are utilizing the Javascript API, I will move this thread the Developer Portal space where a helpful answer is more likely to be found.
I am not a Javascript developer but I'd be curious to know if the https (SSL) of the source sheet is embedded in a html (port 80) view and if the mixing of the two might be an issue.

I'm having the exact same issue as Wojciech. The embedded workbooks work fine, but the Export PDF dialog throws a 401 error due to the thumbnail. Generating the PDF works fine though.
I would also like to add that this error is only being logged in Google Chrome. IE and Firefox do not log the error in the console, although the thumbnail doesn't display on any of the browsers.
