When I publish a workbook to the server, a window pops up with the workbook. In the bottom left there is a hyperlink to open in a browser. I click that, am prompted to log into the server through my browser. I copy the link once the workbook opens and email it to my customers. When they click that link it opens directly to the Dashboard.
Hope that helps.
it depends how much effort you want to expend. The default interface is really good as a general purpose as it's designed for the masses as a one size fits all solution. And as John points out, you could change the default start page to a list of views very easily.
If you want to get custom, then you can create a portal using an outside app such as .Net or Java and then use the API's to tap into the Tableau server repository, this is what we did to overcome some of the "one size fits all" and we allow users to click on a workbook and go directly to the first tab, but it's a sizable project to do this.
Jeffrey's response confirms my suspicion. I appreciate the first two replies, but they are single workbook cases, not for general site use. Thanks, all!
Appreciate the response. Can you share more details about the app development project that helped end users to go straight to first tab after clicking on the workbook, like how long it took to develop, any screenshots if you can share for visuals. Given it's 2 years now since the solution you guys have figure out, are there any other better solutions out there today that you may be pursuing already? Any thing you share would be greatly appreciated.
