# Combine two dimension with similar data into one filter

Hello All,

I am wondering if you could help me with what I am hoping is something tableau is capable of. I have two dimension fields in my data one stating the fiscal year a customer sale occurs in and another is the fiscal year a client goes live. I am wondering if i can combine these two dimensions into one filter where, for example, it would show all clients either sold or live in FY15. I also have other columns for Month and Quarter as well that I would like to do the same with. Is this possible and if so how would i go about doing this?

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Regards,

Khawaja

Do I understand it right you want a filter where you choose FY15, FY14, etc. and then it is supposed to give you all records where either the sale or the go-live was iin that financial year?

You can do something like this.  I'm using Order Date and Ship Date from SuperStore.  Then created a couple parameters with this IF/THEN calc:

IF [DatePart]='year' AND STR(DATEPART([DatePart], [Order Date]))=[Range (year)] AND STR(DATEPART([DatePart], [Ship Date]))=[Range (year)] THEN 'Show'

ELSEIF STR(DATEPART('year', [Order Date]))=[Range (year)] AND STR(DATEPART([DatePart], [Order Date]))=[Range]

AND STR(DATEPART('year', [Ship Date]))=[Range (year)] AND STR(DATEPART([DatePart], [Ship Date]))=[Range] THEN 'Show'

ELSE 'Hide'

END

That is exactly what I am looking to do. I have three columns one for Month, Quarter and Fiscal for both the live and sold date. I basically need to able to filter using any of those three and be able to select multiple items from the filters as well.

Thank you for your response Daniel. The only issue with this looks like that the user would not have the ability to select multiple months, quarters, etc. Is there a way to do this without using parameters?

They can only select one give date part and a single value for the date value.  Give the workbook a try.
