Recap of Spokane Tableau User Group

    Corey Turner

Last Thursday Spokane had its first Tableau User group meet up! We had a pretty good turnout representing a variety of different industries with experience levels from beginner to advanced. It was great to meet some of others in the community using Tableau and kick off the user group. Below is a recap of what happened and who was there:

Spokane Public Schools shared how they use Tableau for distributing data to their entire staff and demoed some dashboards that displayed student academic info, post secondary enrollments, and mapping school boundaries. A few other things included were the benefits of LOD expressions (new in 9.0) and creating dynamic sets.

Eastern Washington University shared a few dashboards on how their IT department uses Tableau to monitor work load and capacity as well as analyzing retention.

Whitworth University shared how they use Tableau to analyze alumni contributions and look at the university's strategic plan / goals.

Here are some of the other organizations that participated:

      CHAS Health

      PAML

      Spokane Community College

      Spokane Falls Community College

      Strategic Research Associates

The next TUG will be in the fall. Details regarding the time, location, and agenda will be coming soon. The format will likely change in hopes of being more accommodating to the group as a whole. There was interest in deciding on specific topics prior to the next meeting. If you have a specific requests or suggestions on what you'd like to see out of the next meeting please comment below or email me.
