Views are simply sheets within a workbook that has been published to Server. So what you would want is to pull the workbook itself down from a backup. And that is possible by unzipping the backup, finding the postgreSQL dump file, restoring it to a postgreSQL server, then using a pgSQL script calling pg_largeobject to pull the raw data out of the repository data table for the appropriate workbook. It's actually easier, in my opinion, to have a VM or such running Server, then to restore with --no-config to it, start it up, and pull the workbook down manually or via "tabcmd get".
great answer and I second the fact that its easier to restore to a tableau server and pull from that.
+ 1 to Matt's comments.
It's easier and saves time restoring the backup copy on a new VM( make sure to use No Config) and download the workbook.
