# I have problem with a row that contains Yes

I have worksheet with 3 dimensions on the rows shelf. One of the dimension is a calculated field that returns Y/N base on the results returned on another dimension. Therefore, in some cases, for the same object, I have a Yes AND No returned. How can I keep filter it only on the Y when both Y/N exist without affecting those who have unique answers.

hi Annie,

If you create a calculated field on your Y/N dimension, that is MAX([Your YN Field]), and use that instead, when there is only one you'll get that result, if there is Y and N MAX is Y (it might be MIN! I think tableau equates on alphabet, but might be Ascii codes)...Try MIN if max returns N where there is Y and N!!

Hope that helps

• ###### 2. Re: I have problem with a row that contains Yes

in order to get my Y and N I'm using this formula:

[PH Source] = "Client Estimated Price"

OR [PH Source] = "Internal Budgetary Estimate"

[PH Source] = "Client Estimated Price"
OR [PH Source] = "Internal Budgetary Estimate"

It gives me a True or False answer that I edit the alias for Y and N.

How can I do your suggested steps?

Hey Annie - If you can attach dashboard, then it would be easier to drilled down and fix the issue.

Ps : Use Advanced editor to attach workbook.

See attach worksheet. My issue is on the Source Tab.

• ###### 5. Re: I have problem with a row that contains Yes

Sorry Simon, it won't work.

• ###### 6. Re: I have problem with a row that contains Yes

hi Annie,

Unfortunately I can't open your workbook, as it needs to be a TWBX so it contains the data too.

However I've had a bit of a think, and although usually T/F evaluations are usually the desired method, where possible (being more efficient), in this case the fact it's a Boolean result means that all you really have at your dispsal is COUNT and COUNTD

If you look at the attached, I've made a calculated field on are Sales (at Row Level) > 1000. I've then brought Customer ID in, where at a Row Level some will equate to both True and False. Although I've been able to COUNTD to find where they have both True and False, and have made a formula on this, I'm unable to use the original True/False field as a result, in any calculations that equate to where COUNTD = 2

In the end I've had to equate it to 'Y' and 'N' when the method I gave now works...btw it was MAX

Hope this helps, and I'll have a bit of a think!!

Hey Annie - You need to send in .twbx format (packaged workbook) else none of us will be able to open. Please create extract and save as twbx and send it.

• ###### 8. Re: I have problem with a row that contains Yes

I'm sorry, really not an expert with Tableau. Only a beginner.

• ###### 9. Re: I have problem with a row that contains Yes

hi Annie,

No problem. I still can't open it, as the package only contains the connection string, and not the data itself.

If you right click on your data, and select 'Extract' Tableau will create a TDE, and if you then save that as a TWBX and re-post we can open it and see your issue.

btw if you want to go back, on your copy, to a live connection, simply un-tick extract from the same right click menu

• ###### 10. Re: I have problem with a row that contains Yes

What do I need to do once I have it as a .tbd?

• ###### 11. Re: I have problem with a row that contains Yes

hi Annie,

A .twbx is just a zip file which contains the .twb (Tableau Workbook), and the Datasource, if you don't extract the data to a .tde (Tableau Data Extract), The datasource is a .tds (Tableau Data Source) which only contains the instruction on how to connect to the data source (SQL Server in your case)....That is basically all the file types that Tableau (there are a couple more, like preferences, but you'll probably never encounter any but these 4.

So if you save your workbook, as a .twbx, and then, right click on data source and choose extract, the ,tde will be saved within the .twbx so when you post that file here we can see it.

One quick thing, the file you've posted is just the .tde, which I can open in Tableau, but can't see your workbook (i.e. the Viz you are trying to create)....While I was having a look from your screen shot (I gave up as there are quite a few fields!), one this occurred to me, have you anonymized the data? or are you happy to make public? If not you can remove it from your last post and send an anonymized version for us to help solve your issue.

Sending a Packaged Workbook | Tableau Software

• ###### 13. Re: I have problem with a row that contains Yes

Please advise if this version of my workbook is correct. I can't really publish it to the public as it contains sensible information so please do not distribute. I'm sharing because I'm desperate to get this work for us as nobody in our group knows how to approach and fix this issue. Tks

hi Annie,

Yes perfect!

The reason, even with the MAX approach that you are still getting 'Y' & 'N' for some 'Opportunity ID's is that you also have PH Source in the view, and each 'Opportunity ID' may have entries for more than 1.

btw as you'll see on the attached I needed to use a formula that evaluated to 'Y' and 'N' (and not a Boolean)

If you look at the attached, I've also done a MIN on this, so it only returns one.

Let me know how you want to deal with this, and I'm sure I can work up a solution (...famous last words!!)
