size & colour (independently or in combination) or shapes may help
but you could also create sets or buckets to group some of the unwanted activity
you could change the axis (both scale and type) to better show what you want
or add a trend/ reference line
if you could post an example i'm sure lots of people can help with suggestions!
shapes could technically solve it, but I use size, hence I need to have all companies displayed as bubbles...
With large number of objects, its becoming difficult to find company of interest, thats why I need to have a "filter" where I can select the one and it gets highlighted (same as color legend work).
Unfortunately cant share my workbook, but its really a simple scatter with companies displayed as bubbles (size representing Revenue, for example).
When I first read your question, my first thought was of this...
Its by one of the founders, it brilliantly demonstrates how to have a lot of information but also make it informative
would something like that be appropriate?
I would also suggest having a look here -
You could do it a 1000 different ways, maybe you just need some inspiration to find the best for your situation/ data
Hope something there helps!
Hi Mark, in the chart below the bubbles represent individual companies (I had to delete the names...). So what if someone looks at the chart and wants to see the position of comany XY? One way to quickly find it would be by applying color legend on company and hence finding the company and highlighting it by selecting it 'color legend box' (but color coding is already used for regional split). Any other idea? Thanks a lot
With few regions and more customers, can you use Shape for the region and color for the customer. You can also use dual color marks with Region and Customer. This will give you the shades of those customers in that region. Hope this helps and if possible, can you attach a sample workbook with some sample data.
Hi Karunaker, thanks! I am aware of dual colors... do you think that one can adjust name in the color legend filter? Now it is "Region name, Company", but I would like to get rid of region... Thanks
Not that I am aware of. The combined value of the Region and Company defines a unique color value. I can only think of Shapes and color combination.
I'll be interested to see others take on this
