How do I create an interactive flow diagram with non-geographic data?

      Hi,

I am new to Tableau. I am trying to figure out how to create an interactive alluvial flow diagram that looks something like the example below, which I created on the density design website using some of their sample data (a data set that links ingredients to cocktails). One of the key features of this graph is that connections of items from group 1 to group 2 are not the same as connections of items from group 2 to group 1 (e.g., vodka is part of 9 different drinks, but a Screwdriver has only 2 ingredients, one of which is vodka).

In my case, I have two groups. A list of projects that need funding and a list of budget centers that provide funding. I would like lines (scaled by size) to connect projects to the different budget centers that provide their funding. When I select any given project, I'd like lines to all of the budget centers that provide funding to it to be highlighted. Line thickness would be equal to the proportion of the project's budget that comes from each budget center.

Being greedy, I'd like this flow graphic to work in the other direction too. When I click on a budget center, I'd like the lines that connect to each of the projects it provides funding for to be highlighted. In this case, the proportions (and line widths) would change to the proportion of a budget center that is allocated to different projects.

I've pasted the data file below which includes the proportional contributions of budget centers to projects and proportional contributions of projects to budget centers.

I'd be grateful for anyone's help in suggesting a path toward creating the desired visualization from my existing data and/or how to re-structure the data so that any other approach would work.

Thanks in advance for your help.
