diego.medrano Nov 18, 2014 6:04 PM (in response to emily.arbuckle)Hey Emily,
First off, I've moved this to our new Tableau Server Administration section where hopefully we can get some good responses.
Secondly, the first things I would try are:
1. Drivers & Activation | Tableau Software Install the newest driver for the corresponding version (32-bit or 64-bit) and make sure the driver is installed on both the Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server machine.
2. Contact Tableau Support support@tableausoftware.com with screenshots and a link to this post.
Thanks,
Diego

emily.arbuckle Nov 18, 2014 6:15 PM (in response to diego.medrano)Hi Diego,
Thanks for your help. The correct driver should be installed on my desktop, as I'm able to use the program and manipulate data on my computer.
How would I go about updating the driver on the server machine? It's weird that I can see my other workbook on the server, as they both use the PostgreSQL driver.
Hoping to get this uploaded tonight, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Emily

diego.medrano Nov 18, 2014 7:35 PM (in response to emily.arbuckle)I wonder if recreating the workbook in a new workbook would resolve the issue. Also, do any other workbooks connected to that specific postgresql data base have issues? Are both databases the same version?
To update the driver on the server simply install the file on the server machine (although I don't see why one would work and one wouldnt).
Also, maybe use an extract in the meantime while you wait for support to look at the issue?

Ditto on the Postgres version thing that Diego mentioned. If the workbooks are talking to different Postgres servers, they could be different versions. Also, ensure that whatever new driver is installed on any of the Tableau Server nodes meeting the criteria in this chart.

emily.arbuckle Nov 19, 2014 10:03 AM (in response to Matt Coles)Hi Matthew & Diego,
I noticed that the other dashboard I've published before uses extracts as well, so I've done this to all my documents as an interim fix. Am working with the Tableau Server administrator to ensure that all driers have been installed.
Thanks for your help!

emily.arbuckle Nov 19, 2014 5:40 PM (in response to diego.medrano)Hi Diego,
My server administrator has informed that the Microsoft Excel documents must be extracted before they can be published on the server - problem solved!
Thanks again for your help,
Emily

Ken Patton Nov 19, 2014 5:46 PM (in response to emily.arbuckle)That's one way around it. Another way is for said Server administrator to install the "Microsoft Access Database Engine 2007" driver. (The MS Jet "legacy connector").
Although it's certainly not a bad idea for you to Extract your Excel worksheets, if there is no policy forbidding plain, un-Extracted Excel, then this driver (I think of it as a "Microsoft Office" driver) will do the trick.

Wait...how did we go from a PostgreSQL issue to Excel? This is why I advocate DETAILS when posting questions. Kudos to your Server admin (who should be your first point of contact).
