Not sure you can, but I'm wondering why you are converting a date to a string? What are you doing with this string, that you can't do with the date?
Agrees with Shawn that I can't imagine a reason why you would need to, aside from comparing it to an existing string that matched the desired date format.
That being said, I think you'll have to resort to manually creating the format for the intended string.
Here's an example that converts a date in to a string with a format of d-mmm-yy:
I have to convert it to a string because of the 16 column
limit in a Tableau cross-tab and because you cannot change how a cross tab
sorts except by re-arranging columns (which then puts the columns out of the
required order). Thus, I have to
concatenate the date field with some text fields and therefore need to convert
it to text. I was hoping to be able to
do this without carving the date into the constituent components, but that is
apparently not possible.
