Connect to tdsx instead of constantly recreating Local Copy

I'm using Tableau Online. We have a published data source. Since user filters are kind of hard to test User Filters Do Not Restrict Data When Using a Tableau Server Data Source | Tableau Software , I have to create a local copy of the published data source, replace the published data source to test the user filter, then replace the local copy with the actual data source...

Then I have a tdsx file laying around. It would be nice if I could have the published data source opened, and open an existing tdsx. I think right now, I can only click the tdsx to open it, but I can't open the tdsx while having the published data source open
