Scattered Plot shape sizing

I am trying to use a scatter plot for my visual. To do so, i had to unselect the "aggregate marks" option on the analysis tab so i could render the view. The problem is that i have many repeated shapes (points with same x and y values), and i would like those repeated bubbles to appear bigger than the ones that only appear once or less frequently. Adding number of records to the SIZE pill only returns 1, as i am not able to use SUM([Number of Records]) since the measures placed on the shelf are not aggregated.

Is there anything i can do to leverage the number of duplicated records to the size of the marks?

Hi Carlos,

In order to create a calculated field to determine how big a mark should be (based on the number of repeated shapes), some aggregation will be needed. It may be possible to use the ATTR aggregation to show each mark, then use a table calculation to count the number of repeated shapes. With that said, having a packaged workbook would really help to work towards a solution. Is it possible to upload one?

Cheers!

The workbook is attached.

Thank you Jordan.

Thanks for the quick reply Carlos!

To create the scatter plot, I turned aggregation back on, and then right-clicked the SUM(x) and SUM(y) measures on the Rows and Columns shelves, and set them to "Attribute". I then dragged the x and y measures on to the Detail shelf, and changed them both to "Dimension" in order to bring the level of detail in the view to each row within the data source.

The SUM(Number of Records) is left on the Size shelf, and results in larger sizes for repeated values.

For details, please see the workbook attached.

Have fun!

Thank you Jordan. This solved my problem. I guess i still need to work on learning more about the Details tab and its functionality. I am not sure why things rendered the way it did when you used, while i understand the actions that were taken. So thank you very much!
