# How do you create Total of moving total?

I would like to have a calculated field, which would sum 12 months (moving total) but at the same time sum all of elements. So let's say if I have sales data by company, I would like to have 12 months moving total, but also the sum of moving totals of all companies. Is this possible? I am getting errors in formulas, because TOTAL() cannot use another aggregated field.

It is essential that the calculation is done via calculated fields (not with quick calculations).

Thank you!

Can you mock up an example using the sample data provided with Tableau?  Thanks

Hi Matthew,

I am attaching the example. If I explain very simply - I would like to sum up the values for all categories for the period of December 2012 to November 2013 (as highlighted below) - the result would be one total number. How would I do that by using calculated field? (I know it's possible by doing quick calculation, but I would really need a calculated field)

Thanks!

I'm not sure I understand what kind of view you are trying to create.
