1 of 1 people found this helpfulHere's one thing that worked for me. Click on the "Color" shelf and change the Transparency to anything less than 90%, and the background turns to the plain white magically. 90% or greater, and it goes back to a grey background.
Very strange.

Julianna Wokurka Feb 3, 2014 8:46 AM (in response to Matt Lutton)Yes, it's frustrating. I can't even have banding that goes across each row. I just don't get it. Thanks for the little cheat though.

Is this happening on all your workbooks? I'd definitely contact Support@tableausoftware.com as it does seem very bug-ish.

Shawn Wallwork Feb 3, 2014 9:04 AM (in response to Julianna Wokurka)Julianna, the workbook you posted looks like a corrupted workbook to me. I'd send it to support like Matthew suggested.

Julianna Wokurka Feb 3, 2014 9:05 AM (in response to Shawn Wallwork)oh man. I've had this happen to workbooks before as well. is this the way I find out my workbook is corrupt?

7. Re: clear shading on tables
Shawn Wallwork Feb 3, 2014 9:17 AM (in response to Julianna Wokurka)I've never seen that behavior before, so I can't say if it's corrupted or not. It might be some sort of 'expected' behavior that has to do with default formatting. But it is strange that you can't change the color to anything else, which is why I'm suggesting you send it in, or maybe Tracy Rodgers will see this and take a look.

Definitely appears to be a bug, and one others are experiencing as well--this issue is related, and changing the transparency to less than 90% fixes this one as well:

Julianna Wokurka Feb 3, 2014 11:21 AM (in response to Matt Lutton)Wow, thank you. What an oddity. The only suggestion from tableau support was to reconnect the data source.

11. Re: clear shading on tables
Julianna Wokurka Feb 3, 2014 11:41 AM (in response to Shawn Wallwork)I haven't tried it yet because I don't have time, but I will try it tomorrow or tonight. It's odd too. I noticed the grey highlighting is all over the workbook, not just tables but all the charts as well.

12. Re: clear shading on tables
Julianna Wokurka Feb 4, 2014 7:23 AM (in response to Julianna Wokurka)I tried re-attaching the data and replacing the old data source with the new and this fixed it. It's not the nicest fix since replacing a data source means some extra work (it doesn't replace perfectly cleanly). However, it did still work.

13. Re: clear shading on tables
Robert Rouse Mar 17, 2014 1:18 PM (in response to Julianna Wokurka)Another option here is to remove or disable the custom background image under Map->Background Images. Using the example you posted, when I uncheck the box next to the image name ("Capture"), the problem goes away. Don't ask me why this works, but it does.
However, if you have to have that custom background in there you have 2 other options:
1) change the transparency as Matthew said above.
2) change the mark type to "square" then set the transparency all the way to zero.

Prachiti Phadke Jul 13, 2017 5:18 AM (in response to Julianna Wokurka)Hi Julianna,
You can remove the formatting by simply formatting the table pane.
Right click on the table data, click format, click on the paint tub icon on the panel which appears and and change the pane shading to white!
