The problem is that our Tableau Server is not administered by our department. There is a 2 hour threshold for scheduled extracts performed on the server. Would using tabcmd outside the set time frame to refresh an extract bypass the limitations of that restriction?
For example if I have a scheduled refresh at 6 am that fails after 2 hours, would using tabcmd to refresh the extract on a 'non-scheduled' basis bypass that 2 hour restriction?
Though you can force a refresh, if your IT dept. has fixed the limit then you're still screwed. You may need to talk to them about changing it. I have mine set for 8 hours but so far the longest extract time I've seen has been less than 55 minutes:
REM 28800 minutes = 8 hours tabadmin set backgrounder.querylimit 28800
Maybe you could also revisit why the extract is taking so long? Though I don't know exactly how it was done, a new author took that 50 minute extract down to less than 5 minutes.
