By the way, this happened on Linux
Are you running this on Ubuntu?
I'm experiencing the same issue when trying to run sample makeorder.py on python27 64bit.
is there anyone having solved this issue recently?
linux info: 3.4.66-55.43.amzn1.x86_64 GNU/Linux
I will appreciate any suggestions.
Same issue here with Python v2.7.3 using the dataextract 64bit library, running on Ubuntu 12.04 x64.
Is there a way to specify a Tableau Server URL for the Extract object created?
The error "server did not call us back" seems to indicate that there is some attempt to communicate with a Tableau installation. However, I don't think Tableau can be installed on linux platforms, so if this is the case, a remote connection would need to be configured somewhere in the python code.
Anyone made progress on this?

I had the same problem, was able to fix it by setting the correct file permissions on "tdeserver64" file located in "site-packages/dataextract/bin/" folder.
This file was not executable, when I gave it 755 permissions the script worked like a charm without giving the "TableauException (204): server did not call us back" error.
Hope it helps for you,
I set the 755 permissions to the tdeserver64 and it worked!
thank you Rob!
Worked for me, too =). Thanks Rob!
