Have you already seen all the training videos and links about GA--it should be a good starting point on how to use your own data:
I also am wondering if there are any users out there who would be billing to share GA workbooks that could inspire my own efforts.
I just saw this question: I can share my GA workbook - it does not have a lot of data but it may be useful. Another great resource would be the GA example from the public gallery: Analyzing Website Traffic Trends | Tableau Software
Would you like me to add my own GA workbook ?
Is there anyway we can analyse Google Analytics data using the Tableau Desktop (not professional)? In other words, is it possible to expert GA database and then import from Tableau?
You can export data from Google Analytics to CSV, and analyse it in Tableau.
Start with the custom reports, choose 'Flat Table', and select (max) 2 dimensions and a lot of metrics.
With 'external' tools like Excellent Analytics you can import GA data straight into Excel - with 7 (or was it 8?) dimensions. This plugin uses de Google Analytics API just like Tableau does. But the Tableau connector is a very usefull one...

Thank you Johan!
I was a bit disappointed to with the lack of ability to connect with the standard desktop version. At least now there is a 'way'.
If you are a bit technical (or someone knows who is) you can also write your own scripts with the Google Analytics API, and export to API.
Another option I have used in the past is the Google Analytics Spreadsheet add-on for Google Docs. Possibly more reliable than Excellent Analytics
Have fun with Google Analytics!
[and could you tag my answer as 'correct' to close the question?]

How do you tag?
