This works great for me:
I wonder if your data has something to do with it - If you create a "sample" Excel workbook that you plug a few dates into, does this file cause the same behavior with Tableau?
If you want to post a portion of the Excel workbook, I'd be happy to try it out on my side for you.
Some sources do not allow a day date change (as it is set by the server I believe). There are other workarounds that I saw posted just recently.
Once you create an extract, in order to change the Start of Week, you must do the following:
- Right click the extract and select Remove to remove the extract and return to a live connection.
- Right click the live data connection and select Date Properties.
- Change the Start of Week day.
- Create the extract again.

Thanks Ben - This works. I am not sure what the 4th step means. I now have a live connection with the correct week start date. Everything seems to be working well with the live connection but as I said, I am not sure what you mean with step 4.
Step #4 would only be necessary if you had been using an extract prior to switching to the live connection and needed to re-create that extract you were previously working with.
The option of changing "Weak Start" in date properties is working with Live connection with other datasource but I'm not sure what's the issue with Sample Superstores.
With Sample Superstores option is still grayed out for Live connection as well.
