    Joins After Extracting Data

I have been trying to work with a large data set in my mysql database. I have Table A (5m rows) & Table B (650k rows)  which is linked by a parameter "Param1". I have Tables C, D and E which all have a parameter "id" which is linked to Table A. All the parameters in Table A and B are the ones which are used as filters for visualizing Tables C, D and E. If I have a custom sql which has Inner Joins on Table B, C, D and E with Table A, it takes forever to execute the query. So I was wondering if Tableau has a process to join the data after extracting, in which, I can have a seperate connection to the database for each of these tables. If I do have a seperate connection to the same database, wont that be inefficient?
