    InvalidCharacterError Script Error When Loading Google Map Views

    Tracy Rodgers

      A customer has discovered that a solution to this error requires a registry change to the WebBrowser control for the specific application that’s using it. In this case, the application is Tableau. The following solution was found from this Devhut post http://www.devhut.net/2013/10/18/webbrowser-activex-control-google-maps-invalid-character-scripting-error/.

      Work with your IT administrator to create and distribute a .reg file with the following registry key/value pair:

      [(HKEY_CURRENT_USER or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE)\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION]
      "MyApplication.exe" = dword 8000 (Hex: 0x1F40)

      Important: If done improperly, modifying the registry can cause serious problems with your computer. For added protection, back up the registry before you make any changes to it.
