Is there no way to atleast hide the calulations from the workbook when a person opens and unhide when needed ?
A few thoughts:
If users have Reader then they wouldn't be able to see the forumulas, right? Only if they had Desktop would they be able to see the formulas.
Also, what about dis-allowing Download/Web Save As and just allow users to Edit the workbook directly on Server?
Hey Gallop --
To a certain extent, what you're trying to do runs counter to the way the product was envisioned. If a user has access to the workbook in Desktop, we generally want them to have full access to expressions to understand how they work and extend things that are already there.
As Toby says, publishing to Server is probably the best way to go.
How about the use of data server on Tableau Server? As we are trying to secure the data source, users who do get access to Tableau workbook would still be required authentication to Server to open the workbook's data source, as well as no means to modify the existing calculations (only capable of making copies of the fields if they indeed need to modify something). This acts as a great way for prepping calculations and data sources for desktop users. I'd take a look at this article: About Tableau Data Server. If security and distribution is becoming a concern, Server is really the way to go.
