Switch between columns of different datatypes using a Parameter

    Kuber Nagpal

Requirement : To display data in tabular form which would show column A and column B if parameter is set to "B" and column A and column C if parameter is set to "C".

Potential Solution : Create a calculated field named as "DisplayColumn" with the logic : "if [parameter] = "B" then "Column B" else if [parameter] = "C" then "Column C".

Complication : If Column B and Column C have different data types ( for example, one is integer and the other is percentage ) there is no correct datatype that can be assigned to the resultant "DisplayColumn" using the above method.

Question : Can the above solution be tweaked or is there any other better solution to implement this feature?

Thanks for your time and thoughts!
