COUNTD() is available but not working...

Both the primary and secondary data sources are Extracts (from a MS SQL Server I believe). So COUNTD() is available to both. In the primary data source I created this calculation:

      COUNTD( [Candidate_GMC_Number] ) +

      COUNTD([N24 Timesheet Connection (Live N24 Server) ].[Candidate_RefNo])

One from the primary + one from the secondary. This gives me this error:

      error.png

      COUNTD( [Candidate_GMC_Number] ) +

      COUNTD([N24 Timesheet Connection (Live N24 Server) ].[Candidate_RefNo])

Changing the COUNTD() on the secondary to COUNT works no problem:

      COUNTD( [Candidate_GMC_Number] ) +

      COUNT([N24 Timesheet Connection (Live N24 Server) ].[Candidate_RefNo])

Also COUNTD([Candidate_RefNo]) on a new sheet returns the expected value of 44.

QUESTIONS: Has anyone else seen this sort of behavior? Does anyone know why it's behaving this way, and what can be done to fix it? What am I not seeing?
