I don't think this is possible, as of yet... whatever email address is associated with the account that is "subscribing" is used.
If you have access, you can add an email address to the user(s) you want to this for, and log in to workbooks as them and subscribe that way. I believe that may be the only way to get at what you want currently, within Server. There is another idea mentioned here, which includes forwarding subscription alerts to other users from your own inbox: http://community.tableau.com/ideas/1913
Someone can certainly correct me if I am wrong about any of this.
It seems that there are many requests for this type of functionality, and I didn't even realize it wasn't a built in part of Server until you asked the question.
Matthew is correct. Subscriptions are per user and will use the email address associated with that user. There are a couple of other options:
1. Use tabcmd and write your own script to send emails to anyone you want. (Using Tabcmd | Tableau Software)
2. For one user on Server, set the user's email to use a distribution list and subscribe that user to desired views.
+1 to the distribution list idea, that just occurred to me as well. Thanks for confirming Joshua. This is something I was unaware of, and I have a use case for this coming up. Appreciate the input!
Good thinking on the distribution list idea - i'll try that.
I don't feel quite tech savvy enough to use tabcmd - i'll get there just not right now.
Matthew & Chris,
Glad to help! Subscriptions is new functionality with 8.0. I would imagine it will mature as a feature in future releases.
in our company, Tableau Server is using LDAP for authentication, and email addresses are automatically setup, so I can't replace a user email with a distribution list.
It seems that only tabcmd will help (unfortunately, I will have to write/edit batch files each time a user will want to push reports.
Agreed. I need to subscribe high-level execs to views and can't get them in due to LDAP configuration. This is a much-needed enhancement.
