It appears that this has been asked for before with no satisfactory resolution.
I guess it must be a bug ... sorry ... feature.
I don't understand what the problem is--you should get a horizontal scroll bar as well once the sheet is on a dashboard, right?
Thanks for the reply.
However, no, it doesn't work as a tab nor when the sheet is placed on a dashboard.
The issue seems to be that scroll bars will not work when there are many dimensions that cause the display to be wider than the work area / page. If you have many measures then no problem - scroll bars - but if you have many dimensions, no go.
The problem is that there are many times when a table looking sheet is also required and if you have many dimensions and only a couple of measures (quite normal), then it doesn't work.
I'm pretty sure there is a way around that. If you post a sample packaged workbook and explain what you want, someone can help you achieve it.
Was this ever resolved? I am having the same issue. Thanks.
BTW. I am using 8.1.2
Just upgraded to 8.1.3 and still no love.
Has this been resolved? I am having the same issue. I have 10 dimensions and 1 measure. The only workaround is to reduce the dimension column size till the measure is visible on the dashboard (object).
We are on 8.2.2
Hi Sukrut - I had to get around this by putting the worksheet on a dashboard with an exact width big enough to show the whole table (1800 in my case)
A horizontal scrollbar will only show when added measures exceed the width of the screen/dashboard. Dimensions will simply be cut off with no scrollbar to help you, and no ellipsis or other indication that anything even is cut off.
Here is the suggested idea you can vote on to tell Tableau you are interested in them changing this behavior: http://community.tableau.com/ideas/1136
It honestly boggles my mind why they went through the trouble of programming in a horizontal scrollbar but only provide it for measures and not dimensions (especially since this is inconsistent with how Tableau treats crosstabs that are too tall: A vertical scrollbar is given regardless of whether dimensions or measures are responsible for the added height).

horizontal scroll doesn't come up within worksheet. You will be able to see it on dashboard as follows:
1. add worksheet to a dashboard
2. set size of dashboard as 'exactly'
3. You may try with 1400/900 for laptop, or any other.
4. If its still not coming, on dashboard, select the worksheet you added to dashboard and click on fit width.
