Maximum number of columns that can be displayed in Tableau is 16 by design since what I feel is that doing analysis on such large number of columns is really difficult. And, if you still want to show more than 16 columns in a Tableau just built 2 sheets and merge them in a single dashboard.

Exactly what Rafi said. If you need more than 16, simply add a second sheet to the right of your first. You can add the same row headers, then hide them in the second sheet so it appears like one layout.
I might add that's a LOT of columns--is it really necessary? There may be other ways to arrange your data. If you post a sample here, someone may be able to help you find a better arrangement.
