We have multiple databases at work where we can pull data. We also have multiple versions, for example, Microsoft SQL 2005 SP4 32-bit and SQL 2008 SP3 64-bit. Based on forum questions I know the drivers installed on the Tableau Server can affect connectivity. Given this, what's a poor Tableau Admin to do? Given the example above, can I install both versions or would one over-write the other? How would the correct driver be chosen (would Tableau automatically do this)?
I would install the latest one. I.e., if your "highest" version is 2012, install the 2012 driver. They are typically backwards compatible. I connect to many different versions of SQL Server and I don't recall installing multiple versions.
