    Table Calculation vs Stored Procedure

    Patrick Calnan

I have just started working with Tableau and I have previously been using SQL for my data analysis needs. I am starting to familiarize myself with table calculations and my initial question is are they a substitute for stored procedures/views in which I have used complicated calculations?

I have found this discussion helpful where it recommends doing the calculations in the SQL and taking the information directly into Tableau

I have asked a question on calculated fields previously and I would like to get a sum of the starts which I believe is a calculated field on a calculated field. I think that this is getting too complicated and that I would be better off doing this analysis in SQL.
