# A Simple Table Analysis...

I have what I hope is a simple question, but I can't seem to figure it out, hopefully someone can help.

I'd like to create a a calculated field or table analysis that lets me set a numeric (and static) goal. So as the data approaches the target, it'll calculate 1000 - (Field).

Am I missing something really obvious? When I use the calculated field, it won't let me subtract from a number, only another field.

Ryan, can you provide a sample workbook? Should be a pretty easy fix.

Sure, it's attached.

I'm trying to get the sheet "Yards from Goal" to show "Sum([Overall Yards]) - 1000)" (having that number be a negative value is preferred here).

Let me know if you need anything else, and thanks for the help!

Ryan,

Create a calculated field 'Overall Yards Minus 1000' that handles the arithmetic:

Sum([Overall Yards]) - 1000

and then drag this field to the label shelf.

Thanks, but I swear I tried that this morning and the calculated field told me that the formula was wrong... But it works now, so I must be crazy. Thanks for helping solve the silly problem.
