Dynamic Filter List Based on Wildcard Condition?

    Matt Lutton

      1)  Sorry, no packaged workbook here.  I don't think it will be necessary in this case.

      2)  I have a workbook in which users can choose a Course to see relevant grade information about that course.  As I am fairly new to Tableau, I have not been able to figure out a way to compile a list of courses based on a wildcard condition--this way, when a new course is added to the data, it would update to include any match.  I have tried editing the filter by "Condition", and have tried:

      • CONTAINS([Course], "*eng*10*"

However, this is not working.  When I do this, ALL courses show up in the filter list.  Am I doing something wrong here, or is there another easy approach?  Unfortunately, the data I am working with has a variety of names for the same course, like "Eng 10", "English 10", "English 10A", and so on...  I am trying to limit what I show to only English 10 courses in the filter list.

Any help would be appreciated.  Screenshot of my filter shown below.  Thanks, as always!
