Is there a way to implement the same effect a JOIN clause has in Tableau vs a WHERE clause filter? For example, we have a table we'd like to filter in the JOIN clause so only the data that fits the criteria is joined to the other tables as compared. Our query looks like:
ON mytable.columnaA = maintable.columnB
ON mytable.columnaA = 'mystring'
Based on the logs, every filter we put always puts that 'mystring' filter in the where clause. We get different results either way so how can we get the same effect as the filter above?
It shouldn't matter whether that clause is generated in a WHERE or ON clause as they do the same thing in the SQL database. Tableau will only generate a WHERE clause when comparing to a constant.
