There could be number of different factors that are causing this error. This error usually occurs because Tableau Desktop is expecting to receive XML from Tableau Public, but is receiving HTML instead, and does not know how to parse it. One thing to try is:
1. Verify you have cookies enabled in Internet Explorer (or whatever browser you are using). Internet Explorer cookie settings are available through the Tool --> Internet Options, click on the Privacy tab and select Advanced. First and Third party cookies must be enabled.
I really appreciate the response, but unfortunately it didn't work. The error pops up right at the end of the process of uploading. The good news is that the uploaded workbook seems to function OK. I hope that continues.
I hope it's OK if I add a follow up question: Assuming the error has no consequence, is there a user-limit for the online workbook? I will have a max of about 35 people looking at the workbook at the same time, clicking quick filters and changing tabs. Is there any reason that I should expect a problem with that many people hitting it simultaneously?
There shouldn't be an impact to the workbook with that many people viewing it simultaneously.
If you want to investigate the error further, you can send it to our support team email@example.com
Be sure to include the workbook and a screenshot of the error.
Hope this helps!
