Why does Tableau CAST a field when aggregating

      All,

I have an interesting question.  I am using Tableau 8 against Teradata 13, and regardless of what datatype a field is defined as in the database (INT, BIGINT, DECIMAL(18,2)), the query sent to Teradata always casts the field as BIGINT (or DOUBLE PRECISION if doing a percentage).  If you look at the description of each field, it shows the actual data type, so that is recognized as part of the connection.  Our DBAs would like to avoid CAST operations if possible, so any thoughts on why Tableau would always add this to the SQL sent to the database?

      Thanks much,

      Steve
