There are plenty of forum topics on this aside from the video link Shawn provided. There are also plenty of external links on the subject as well including Improved Waterfall Chart in Tableau | InterWorks, Inc.. A Google search on "waterfall charts tableau" brought up a lot of options.
On a side note, when requesting assistance, it is helpful for potential responders to know what you have done on your own to try to arrive at a solution and indicate what has/hasn't worked for you. If you are not searching the forums or the internet for answers ahead of posting, I'd recommend that you try that first - you may find the answer quicker on your own than waiting for a response.
And also whether our answers to your other "urgent' requests were helpful and solved your problem.
I have gone through online course Waterfall charts in Tableau site and all possible options in google. In every article mentioned that on column shelf..we have to put a dimension or Date field and on rows shelf we have to put one measure to find cumulative effect.
But, my requirement is.....on columns shelf..i have to plot 6 different measures(not a dimension nor a date field) and i have to show cumulative effect among the 6 measures.
I have tried this, but i am unable achieve the solution. Because of the reason, i have posted a question as....with measures on column shelf can create Waterfall chart or not.
Please sugest a solution for this. I have attached te mock up in previos post.
You'll need a dimension of some sort on the columns shelf whether it be text, date, etc. to create the chart. I've never tried what you are wanting to accomplish, so I'm thinking out loud with the text below.
Given: You have 6 measures you wish to work with and you wish to consider them all irrespective of a specific measure or date.
Given: You need to have either a date or dimension in this type of chart
Given: If we tie the measure to an existing dimension, only the records matching that dimension will be used; so we cannot use an existing dimension.
Given: If we create a new dimension, all records would show; but only for a single measure
Possible Workaround: Via SQL or in the datasource, create a new field (i.e.: Waterfalls) and duplicate your data an additional 5 times. The original data would have Waterfalls set to the name of Measure 1; the first duplicate would have Waterfalls set to the name of Measure 2; the second duplicate would have Waterfalls set to the name of Measure 3; and so on until all 6 Measure names are represented.
Next you would create a calculated field (i.e.: Waterfall Categories). It might look something like:
if [Waterfalls]="Budget Margin" then [Budget Margin] //substitute Budget Margin w/Measure 1 name & field info
elseif [Waterfalls]="Margin" then [Margin]
elseif [Waterfalls]="Budget Profit" then [Budget Profit]
elseif [Waterfalls]="Profit" then [Profit]
elseif [Waterfalls]="Budget Sales" then [Budget Sales]
elseif [Waterfalls]="Sales" then [Sales]
Place Waterfalls on the columns shelf and Waterfall Categories on the Rows shelf. You'd still need to create your waterfall size field and set things to a Gantt chart.
Perhaps this thinking out loud may help,
p.s.: Out for 10 days starting tomorrow - hopefully another forum member can fill in if you have additional questions.
Can any one suggest do we have any workaround for Waterfall charts. Can we plott any other type of grpah which fullfill the requirement of waterfall graph.
Hope your Out-Of-Office was a vacation!
