It's not automatic. Also, the synchronizing that Tableau Server does is one-way, meaning it will add new users from AD but it will not remove them if they aren't there. Definitely not a smart implementation on Tableau's part, hopefully they'll fix this mistake.
You will have to create a batch script like this one http://bensullins.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Tableau_SyncADGroups_2.0.bat_.txt and schedule it to ran like every night or whatever fits your needs. Tableau doesn't refresh automatically its AD groups.
Beware of something, when the command syncgroup is called, the AD group is emptied than filled. If you run this command while your users are connected to Tableau Server, they might lose access to some projects/workbooks momentarily.
Hope this helps !
Thanks a lot for your script. This is the one which i was looking for. I have also contact tableau support and they to have given me the same solution what you have offered.
Thanks a lot for sharing the script.
On this same topic, does anyone know how to schedule multiple scripts to update that all start with the same verbiage such as 'AD-TABLEAU'?

Olivier (or anyone else who knows), are you 100% positive about your statement? This would be great news if true!
I am currently having the same issue, can you guide me some steps on how to insert or embedded the BATCH SCRIPT on to tableau server to take changes.
