    Using Icons as Filters

    Brad Mills

In this viz they use some league icons to filter the results on the page:

Are there any tutorials out there on how to do that?

          Hi Brad,

That dashboard is using a filter action. Here's a knowledge base resource regarding Dashboard Actions. http://kb.tableausoftware.com/articles/knowledgebase/combining-sheet-links-and-dashboards

If you have a specific dashboard you need help with, feel free to post a packaged workbook.

            Hi,

If you want to use icons or shapes to filter you can save the images in your MyTableauRepository>Shapes folder>Create new folder name for new images.  This is located somewhere on your computer in one of your tableau folders or mine is on my C:.

Once the images are in here:

            1. Create a new sheet.

            2. Drag the dimension that contains the names of the buttons

            3. Change the mark to shape

            4. Click on "Shape" and change the shapes to the corresponding images you saved in MyTableauRepository

            5. Then create your dashboard

            6. On the container with the sheet you just created with your shapes, in the top right corner, between the X to remove the sheet from the dashboard and the down carrot for the container options, there is another darker carrot you can select and choose "Use as Filter" or "Don't use as Filter".

Then this will filter the data and you can select and unselect.  This is essentially what was done in the workbook you are referencing and it is a lot easier than you think.

            Brandon
